About Take Away Theatre
ABN: 78 210 671 973
With its base above a fast food shop in Marrickville, Take Away
Theatre has been staging contemporary Australian theatre in both
English and Greek since our establishment in 1989. The company has
gained a strong fringe following for putting a Greek/Australian
spin on the classics such as Shakespeare and Moliere, as well as
premiering new works by local writers, directors and actors. For
a list of Take Away's past productions please click here.
Take Away's Mission
To undertake relevant, accessible and contemporary theatrical projects
which explore multicultural Australia with particular reference
to the Greek-Australian community and to increase the participation
of Greek Australians in all aspects of the professional theatrical
process.
Take Away's Aims
To perform work which is culturally and linguistically accessible
and relevant to Greek-Australian audiences
To encourage the writing of plays by local Greek-Australian
artists
To be accessible to the wider Greek-Australian community by
performing in non-traditional or non-establishment theatre venues
To encourage Greek Australian artists to become members of
Take Away by liaising with acting schools, universities and other
organisations
To encourage young Greek-Australians to participate in the
theatrical process from attending theatre through to more active
participation
To actively pursue the development of cross-cultural bilingual
theatre projects
To increase our membership
To develop mutually beneficial relationships with, and promote
support from, Greek-Australian organisations and businesses.
